UK: Rapid moisture monitoring with the SM150 KIT

For high speed measurements of substrate moisture content, Delta-T has launched the low cost SM150 Kit. Plants grown in competitive areas of horticulture and agriculture are typically grown under “uniform” conditions, but how uniform are they and what water content level does the irrigation system really achieve? The SM150 Kit can answer those questions.

With the SM150 Kit growers can easily check the consistency of growing conditions - saving time and money. The moisture status of thousands of plants can be monitored daily. The sensor is tough enough to be used all day every day in busy growing environments.

An SM150 kit comprises an SM150 Sensor, a dedicated HH150 Meter and a handy carry case. The HH150 Meter is light weight and very easy to use, being a readout-only device (no data recording or PC complications). Simply insert the two sensor pins into the substrate, press read, and the result appears on the display.

The SM150 Sensor has been designed for repeated insertion into soils and substrates and the sharp pins make it is easy to insert without damaging roots or disturbing the growing medium. The SM150 achieves ± 3.0% accuracy when measuring water content. Its performance is stable across wide ranges of temperature and salinity. Its construction uses an industrial grade connector and high specification materials throughout to produce a sensor of outstanding quality.

As well as being at the heart of the SM150 Kit, the SM150 Sensor is loggable and can be buried long-term if desired. It can be used with the Delta-T GP1 Data Logger for precision irrigation control. Readings can be used to optimise irrigation scheduling, or the SM150 can be added to an automatic irrigation system. The sensor's compact size allows it to be installed in plant pots or grow bags.
