Lime acquisition complements Wonderful’s citrus segment

Earlier this year, Wonderful Citrus added the famous “Susie” lime brand to its portfolio by acquiring I. Kunik from South Texas, part of the Grupo B&S business in Mexico. “The new addition to the family makes us the number one lime supplier to the US market,” says David Krause with Wonderful Citrus.

One-stop citrus shop
“This acquisition is the continuation of our strategy to be the one-stop citrus shop for all our customers,” Krause added. “We have been growing and shipping limes from Mexico through acreage that we owned, but the relative share was small. The Susie lime portfolio allows us to penetrate the market in a share that is consistent with our other products. It was the logical add for our lime business,” mentioned Krause.

Year-round availability
Susie limes are grown in Mexico and available year-round. “Supplies vary to some extent, depending on the weather in Mexico, but the fruit is being picked 52 weeks a year,” shared Krause. Susie limes are available in 1, 2, 3 and 5lb. packages as well as 10lb. and 40 lb. boxes and Wonderful Citrus is looking at different ways to bring some excitement to the category. Although the US, Canada and Mexico are the main countries of shipment, the limes are also exported overseas, with Europe being a key destination.
