Poland: Demand for raw apples high

In light of higher trading activity by processors, Polish growers have tried to raise their apple prices. The Polish market is currently characterized by processors’ rather high demand for raw apples, according to Fruit-Inform.

Meanwhile, Polish growers have managed to ship their produce at prices similar to those fixed a year before.

The market analysts say that many Polish market participants were sceptical of the season of apples for processing before its start. According to their opinion, processors may reduce their raw produce purchase volumes after its record high prices in the past season. However, based on the current market conditions, such expectations did not come true, and processors’ demand for raw apples is rather high now.

Processing factories are ready to purchase raw produce at prices similar to the previous year’s volumes: 0.05-0.07 Euro/kg. Moreover, Polish growers have already tried to raise their prices in view of processors’ high trading activity.

Prices of apples for processing reached at least a 5-year high by the end of the past procurement campaign.
