Spanish horticultural producers connected with Europe

Refrigerated railway service between Murcia and Bilbao

MacAndrews, S.A., a firm of the CMA-CGM shipping group, has strengthened its current European inter-modal refrigerated service in 45 feet containers with a refrigerated railway service connecting Murcia and Bilbao's port, which will be officially inaugurated today, 8 May.

The new service started last week with two weekly shipments, which will become a daily refrigerated service in the short term. This way, MacAndrews consolidates as the inter-modal option connecting Spanish horticultural producers with Europe through MacAndrews' ships operating from Bilbao's port. This innovative project, pioneering in Spain, has had two strategic allies - Continental Rail as railway operator and Grupo Fuentes for the management of Nonduermas' railway terminal, in Murcia.

On-board generators

The project has been complemented with the redevelopment of Nonduermas' railway terminal, awarded through public tender, as well as an investment in a new system of on-board generators for the train that supply the necessary energy for the correct functioning of the containers, along with a control system to ensure that the cold chain is maintained. This system contributes to the reduction of both transit times and CO2 emissions.
