Biofuel based on banana waste
Douglas Escalante (an intern of the study) stated that the first step is to generate gas from the waste of banana trees, which can be obtained from their stems as well as their fruits.
"What we want is to optimize production according to the proportions of organic matter introduced, to capture the gas, contain it and make a reaction to transform it into the final product which is the second generation biofuel," he said. According to what he said, the project is in an embryonic stage.
The reason we are using bananas for this research is that it is a resource that can be easily found in the Canary Islands and its surpluses are not being used, since the fruit that is not sold perishes in landfills.
