More apples to Kazakhstan

In October / November 2012 apple imports in Kazakhstan reached 24,000 tons. That was more than half of the total imports in the first five months of the 2012/13 season. Kazakh businesses imported 12,400 tons of apples in October 2012. The following month it was 11,600 tons. According to official statistics, the cumulative imports during these two months were down 7% (year-on-year). Nevertheless, the Kazakh apple import in general is very positive: in the first five months of 2012/13 the country increased imports with year-on-year 19% to 43,000 tons. Kyrgyzstan remained the major apple exporter to Kazakhstan. Poland is in second place and tripled its volume year-on-year to 8,300 tons. China was the third largest exporter with an export volume of 6,700 tons (60% higher year-on-year).

Despite a significant increase in Chinese apple exports to Kazakhstan, China has failed to beat the Polish competition in the Kazakh market. As a result, the Chinese exporters were in second place in regard to the exports to Kazakhstan in the autumn of 2012. As stated, Poland is still the largest apple exporter to Kazakhstan. In September-November 2012 Kazakh businesses imported 6400 tons of Polish apples, while imports from China reached only 4,500 tons. Azerbaijan managed to strengthen its position in the apple exports to Kazakhstan. In the autumn of 2011 the country was the fifth largest apple exporter to Kazakhstan.
