Chile: Blueberry exports show fresh preference

Chilean blueberry exports passed the 80,000 tons mark in week 8.Total estimation for the year was originally set at 107,423, of which 79,367 was anticipated as being fresh, whilst the remaining 28,056 would be frozen.

However, relatively early in the season frozen companies began to report receipt of around 20-30% less fruit than expected, demonstrating a preference for fresh sales this season.

During week 8 2,628 tons were exported which brings the total to 80,700 tons, 20% more than at the same point last season.

For week 9 around 2,000 tons are expected to be shipped.
