India: West Bengal potato prices down on high production

Higher production has brought down potato prices in West Bengal by almost Rs 100 ($1.86) per quintal over the last month.

The state is likely to produce 95 lakh tonnes this year, against 85 last year.

This is partially, though not exclusively, the result of 4-5% increased sowing.

However, late blight is also rife this year, so the increased production is taking a bit of a hit.
