pias is long established logistics company, established in 1971 by the Kandylis family. Since then their fleet has been active on three continents; Asia, Africa and Europe.the company specialises in the storage and movement of perishable goods, including fruits and vegetables. Olympias facilities span 50,000 square metres, making it the largest such site in Greece.
Over the years the fleet has grown to include 150 reefers, 75 of which date from 2010. John Kandylis says, "The reefers are fitted with state of the art cooling equipment and precision temperature recorders - we operate the biggest self owned truck fleet in Europe.
"Our trailers are custom built, they are lighter, but can carry more weight - 23 tons instead of 22 tons."
John says the company also prides itself on being able to offer competitive rates.
John says that the company is very focused on safety and takes its responsibility in this area very seriously.
"Security is paramount," he says, "we must be careful, this is food we are talking about."
He points out that the company employs a safety lock system on the reefers, to ensure that they are penetrated illegally, as there have been cases of illegal immigrants using such trailers to cross borders, with serious implications for the food within.
"We have never had this problem, no entrants at all," he says.
John also pays close attention to ensuring his drivers are fully trained for their role and are responsible of character. The company currently employs 85 professional drivers.
He says that safety is just one advantage that the company can offer their customers and that their local knowledge is invaluable in providing the standard of service they like to deliver.
"We are based in the South of Europe and have been for 40 years, we have a well established network. Most of the companies and countries we cover, we've been working with for years. We've been dealing with Israel for 19 years, Egypt for five years now, for example. We know our contacts well and we know our area."
