The Dominican Ministry of Agriculture announced a rehabilitation plan for all Musa plantations infected by Black Sigatoka, which will start with the replacement of 12,124 hectares of banana and plantains in the provinces of Valverde, Montecristi, Santiago and Azua.
To that end, the Minister Luis Ramón Rodríguez created a Commission for the Integrated Handling of Black Sigatoka in the Dominican Republic, which is responsible for enforcing the resolution to replace the Musa plantations not being appropriately managed.
The resolution number 74-12, of Minister Luis Ramón Rodríguez, takes into account the hiring of 24 squads of 10 men each for a period of two months to replace 4,163 hectares of Musa plants infected by Black Sigatoka in Valverde, 3,961 in Montecristi, 1,500 in Santiago and 2,500 in Azua, which will be readied by the Ministry for the planting of new Musa plants and other alternative crops.
Finally, the country's owners of plantain and banana plantations must allow the inspection of their lands to facilitate the work of the Agricultural Technicians.
