Russia: Volga vegetable storage facility almost completed

In the Ulyanovsk Region in the territory of the Agropompark Company a highly technological facility for vegetable storing with capacity of 12,000 tons is at its final stage of construction.

Construction of all-the-year-round low-temperature storage of vegetables and fruits is 90% complete. All the works were fulfilled in less than a year from when the first foundations were laid. The project is performed without financing from the Government.

Additionally, in the territory of Agroprompark an indoor retail market with 60 covered sales pavilions is under construction as well. In the retail market local agricultural producers will be able to market their goods to the customers any season of the year. It is planned that the retail market will provide sales opportunities not only to big agricultural companies producing a wide range of goods, but also to farmers and owners of private lands.

Another stage in the project includes the construction of an open area for the sale of food products from vehicles, with parking space available for 150 big capacity trucks, forming a “mobile farmers market’. Plans for the future also include installation of technological lines for processing of vegetables and fruits, which will help utilise agricultural products grown by small and medium sized farms.

As the Minister of agriculture, Mr. Alexander Chepuhin, says, the construction of the Agricultural and industrial Park will provide a great support for small to medium to sized agricultural business owners. "Introduction of the new functional complexes in Agroprompark will be a powerful impulse for development of agricultural business activity in the rural areas, will provide new work opportunities, and will create a competition for huge holdings and retail stores chains," - the Minister highlighted.

As the head of ОАО Agroprompark Mr. Sergey Pelevin said, in 2013 the second stage of the complex – exhibition pavilion and business accelerator – will be performed. These facilities, which will be constructed next year, will open doors for scientific and practical tutorials and consulting seminars, as well as to training sessions for people concerned with agricultural sector.
