According to Patrick Stoffels of Stoffels Foods, the demand for exotic fruits is not as good as last year. "That may be partly due to the prices and year-round availability. Passion fruit, for instance, is no longer as special at Christmas; you can buy it all year round. Physalis is this year's clear best-seller. It has minimal availability with inconsistent high quality," he says.
This Dutch company began importing yellow zucchinis from Israel this year. "Those are very expensive, reaching €40 for four kilos. I don't think these kinds of prices support sales. The war in Israel means lower availability, too, which keeps prices high for longer. However, Spain is marketing increasingly better zucchinis, so some customers will probably switch to those."

Patrick reflects positively on the past year. "I can't complain," he admits. "It was another good year. The nice thing is that I could welcome several new clients through suppliers and also meet new suppliers who buyers referred. Our approach differs from many other companies. I try first to build good relationships and ensure that both parties can profit."
"Our growth lies in Class II products. I often find ways to sell a supplier's trade as well as possible. My focus for next year is to keep suppliers satisfied and make sure I have products available for my customers at the right price," Patrick concludes.
