The Port of Algeciras channels 180,000 tons of avocados to the EU every year

Juan Pablo Pallero, the regional coordinator of Plant Health, spoke about the importance of the Port of Algeciras in the reception of tropical fruits that arrive in the EU. Pallero spoke about the subject within the framework of the III International Seminar on Avocado and Tropical Fruits organized by AGQ Labs with the collaboration of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), which was held at the Guadacorte Hotel in Los Barrios, Cadiz.

Pallero said that the port channels 180,000 tons of avocados to the EU market every year, mostly from Peru (which is the origin of 50% of them), but also from Morocco, Colombia, and Kenya.

Gerardo Landaluce, the president of the APBA, announced that the Port Authority is working to increase its plant inspection capacity by 150%, from 12 to 30 doors in the PIF.
