Great start for Black Passion watermelons

Black Passion sales surprised producers. The new watermelons, weighing 4-6 kg, started being commercialized in July and will remain available for a few more days. Sandro Colombi, one of the promoters together with Almaseges and Ortofrutta Castello, reports: "we are very pleased with the debut of our watermelon. Wholesalers and retailers took a chance on it and received positive feedback. 2020 was the first year, now we have what it takes for full production in 2021."

Black Passion is characterized by an entirely Italian production chain - from research and varietal selection to production, processing and commercialization.

"We made considerable investments to obtain a new variety. Black Passion stands out for its Brix level above 12, red flesh, crunchy texture and a deep black streak-less rind. Seeds are edible, white and tender, to guarantee an excellent post-harvesting shelf-life."

Black Passion, which already existed as a brand, now focuses on a unique innovative variety. "A fully Italian watermelon. The group gathers producers from the north and the south, so that the fruit can be available for longer and sorting and processing centers can be located all over the peninsula."
