Partnership for sales of Bluezone Fresh Preservation Technology

US: Primaira partners with Environmental Technology Australia

Primaira, LLC, developer and manufacturer of Bluezone Fresh Preservation Products has finalized a reseller agreement with Environmental Technologies Australia to market and sell their fresh produce preservation and shelf life extension products in Australia, New Zealand and nearby Pacific Islands.

Primaira, LLC manufactures a low cost, compact, low-power technology that maximizes shelf-life and quality of fresh produce being stored or transported. The Bluezone technology safely and cost effectively removes ethylene, inhibits microbial growth, eliminates flavor transfer and improves the longevity of fresh fruits and vegetables. This technology provides benefits along the entire storage, distribution, transport, and end-use supply chain.

ETA, an associated entity of Approved Supplier Management, are food safety, quality & environmental systems consultants who offer solutions to their clients in the areas of fresh produce growing, packing, distribution, wholesaling, transport and storage. Approved Supplier Management was founded in 2004 initially to service the needs of the fresh produce industry. Over time they have expanded our scope to include the import, export and distribution of a broader range of food products.

"We are very pleased to offer our customers a produce quality solution that will reduce losses, increase profits and maintain the highest possible quality of produce" said Keith Maggs, Director, ETA. "Many of our customers experience losses associated with ethylene and mold growth in walk-in coolers and in the transportation of produce from one end of Australia to the other. The Bluezone products will be very beneficial to retailers, transporters and distributors alike".

For Primaira, LLC owners, Phil Carbone and Karen Benedek, representation in Australia expands their access to global markets as they commercialize the Bluezone technology across multiple Military and commercial applications including cold storage rooms, walk-in refrigerators, transport containers, reach-in refrigerators and general produce storage areas. "We are excited to establish a partnership with ETA and leverage the technology initially developed for the US Military into commercial, global markets," said Ms. Benedek. "Australia is one of our key markets. We see great opportunity to provide benefits in the areas of road transportation of tropical produce; storage in Wholesaler’s warehouses/cool rooms, storage at retailer’s cool rooms; and long term storage of produce such as apples and pears."

"Additional applications include providing clean air in flower retailer’s cool rooms and in restaurant walk-ins where the technology has been proven to reduce odors and flavor transfer." said Mr. Carbone.

The freshness enhancement technology works by removing ethylene, a naturally occurring plant hormone emitted by many fruits and vegetables, from the atmosphere of refrigerated containers. By removing ethylene safely, in a cost effective manner, the fruits and vegetables maintain their color, texture, and taste. The technology also effectively inhibits the growth of microbes (mold, fungus, bacteria) in the fresh produce. Without the technology in place, extended storage of mixed loads of fruits and vegetables can lead to excessive ripening, russet spotting, bitterness, softness, rotting, or toughening of the produce. The reaction technology that destroys ethylene also eliminates odors and the volatile organics that lead to flavor transfer among foods stored together.

Bluezone Fresh Preservation products utilize patented technology initially developed by Primaira, LLC for the US Military. The US Army had demonstrated the technology benefits in transport and storage containers. The US Navy has purchased Bluezone units to extend shelf life of produce in their aircraft carrier fleet.
