The latest innovations in fruit machinery? UNITEC in Berlin!

The work of constant innovation proceeds at UNITEC in order to sustain improvements inside fruit and vegetable packing houses.

At Fruit Logistica 2012 (Berlin, February 8-10th) UNITEC is going to present some important innovations to improve the processing of apples, in which UNITEC has made important progress, in particular with ultra-delicate offloading and quality selection systems.

In processing procedures dedicated to apples it is essential that the technology is extremely delicate when handling this fruit, so that processed fruit is not de-classed even to the slightest extent. This was UNITEC's guiding principle for the design and realization of SUPERSOFT_EXIT©, the ultra-delicate system that guarantees zero damage to fruit during the offloading from sizer. This system has already been fully tested and represents a big step forward in apple processing, even for the most delicate varieties.

UNITEC will also be presenting a system for the internal and external quality selection of apples, the main novelty of which is the option of personalization. UNITEC's quality selection systems dedicated to apple processing are highly flexible, offering adjustability on the basis of the fruit, market, and/or customer requirements.

In the cherry sector UNITEC is presenting a world first: technology for selecting internal and external cherry quality, CHERRY_VISION©.

Traditionally, quality selection of cherries involves a large handlabour and the detection of certain defects is not possible visually but only through physical contact with the fruit (a manually impracticable operation and harmful to the product).

With CHERRY_VISION© technology, fully tested with outstanding results at the plant of one of UNITEC important customers in Chile, it is possible to significantly improve the internal and external quality selection of cherries.

This technology is able to detect defects that manual selection fails to identify. The CHERRY_VISION© system also detects internal defects, including the consistency of the flesh of the fruit.

With the CHERRY_VISION© system UNITEC can guarantee final customers an accurate and reliable quality selection, considerably exceeding the manual method, and so significantly improving products for presentation on the market. In addition to improving the quality and uniformity of the selected cherries, UNITEC also satisfies the need of fruit and vegetable producers to drastically reduce processing costs, like the example of the Chilean customer, who reduced his personnel assigned to cherry packing by over 50%.

In the chestnut sector UNITEC will be presenting another world first: chestnut defect detection. UNITEC has created the first plant in the world for detecting defects in this very problematic fruit, offering our customers an instrument that significantly reduces costs while guaranteeing the quality of products released onto the market.

CHESTNUT_VISION© ensures that selected products are of superior quality because it is also able to detect defects that are very difficult to identify with the human eye, like for example small worm holes. The CHESTNUT_VISION© system combines various technological areas and after more than 3 years of development has created a system that gives excellent results, exceeding manual selection standards. This is an important achievement in a sector like chestnuts, which though not particularly large, is present in a number of countries both in Europe and around the world.

Another important area in which our company has made progress that is both innovative and also ethically correct, is the design of ergonomic plants.

These plants respect the rules of ergonomics and implement technology to protect the health of machine operators. UNITEC can certify their plants according to European standards for ergonomics in the workplace. These standards require that the health of the people working on the fruit and vegetable processing and packing lines produced by UNITEC is not harmed in any way. These plants have already been constructed to the complete satisfaction of the customers.

"Ergonomics is taken very seriously in some countries, in particular in Italy - UNITEC representatives say - and we are confident that our internal specialization in this field is a guarantee of reliability for our customers and their personnel".

In response to the demand for versatility, UNITEC will present a sizing system called UNI_ONE LF JOLLY©, which can handle many different types of product, from long fruit to sub-spherical fruit, of both small and large dimensions. For example, this technology can process all types of pears (including Abate Fetel), kiwi fruit, plums, apricots, peaches, flat peaches, nectarines and apples. This technology satisfies the needs of fruit and vegetable processing plants for low investment costs and reduced time to profit.

UNI_ONE LF JOLLY©. is a new sizing system capable of handling both summer and winter fruit, like persimmons. It is ideal for small to medium scale production and is highly efficient for selecting size, colour, weight, and detecting defects in the fruit being processed.

"Our philosophy remains very clear - is said by UNITEC - with a strong commitment to supporting our customers and enhancing their competitiveness, helping reduce processing costs and boosting returns through improvements in the quality of the products they can present on the market. We are fully satisfied with our work when our customers are completely happy with the results we help them achieve using our advanced technological systems".

Fruit and vegetable producers who need to process their products can look to UNITEC with confidence to achieve the best state-of-the-art standards in their sector. Visit us at Fruit Logistica, in Hall 4.1 / Stand A-02!
