Dutch Coöperatie DOOR implements QC One

Coöperatie DOOR has successfully implemented the inspection system QC One over the past few months. In stages, all brands and locations of the vegetable cooperative have switched to a new regime of quality inspections. Both the quality inspection on incoming and outgoing products and shelf life tests have now been recorded. The next stage has begun, which involves the growers themselves conducting quality inspections on their own products.

With five brands, 49 growers and more than 550 hectares of greenhouses, it’s quite a challenge to implement an univocal and standardised quality system. Jan Opschoor, manager of DOOR, is happy with this new step: “In recent years we grew quite a lot, and we want to continue growing. A manageable and professional inspection system is naturally a part of that as well. After an intensive selection, we chose the Dutch QC One. To me and the project team, the flexibility they offer was decisive regarding our choice.”

Thijs van Alebeek continues: “To us, it’s nice to work with a party that knows what they want as well. The DOOR team never once stopped thinking along with us and guiding us, so that we managed to reach a perfect end result. The Prominent, PapriCo, Purple Pride, Green Diamonds and SweetPoint brands are all different, but the basis for the inspection and the scoring is all equal.”

Self-inspection module for growers
It’s not unheard of that cooperatives have their growers inspect their own products. QC One developed a user-friendly self-inspection module to that end in recent months. This module is web-based, so that no investments in hardware are necessary. This way, growers can inspect their own products, resulting in a better insight into the product quality for all parties concerned.

Inspection report
All growers are paid based on the quality they supply. To this end, complex formulas have been worked out, which calculate the eventual end mark of a party or inspection report. These calculations have all been loaded into QC One. After an inspection report has been finished, all parties concerned receive a confirmation e-mail of the report with a link to said report and the final mark, all within a minute. Inspections reports can be viewed both via the portal of QC One and in the smartphone app.

Inspections based on customer specifications
DOOR packs its fresh products specifically for each customer, so that they can immediately be placed in shops and DCs. All of these specifications have also been recorded in QC One, and can be adjusted in real-time. Because of this, quality workers on the packing line always know exactly what the end product should look like and what specifications it should meet.

QC One supports fresh produce inspection processes with a tablet that has been equipped with a special inspection application. The app has been developed in such a way that it supports the inspector in their daily activities, and is available in English, Dutch, Spanish and Turkish. QC One ensures a fast and automated distribution of the inspection reports in the supply chain. As a result, all parties concerned have the correct management information at their disposal. The platform has already been coupled to SAP Business One, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, RPO/Freshng and BT9/Xsense, among other parties.
