7,500 Moroccan seasonal workers selected to harvest Spanish strawberries

The agricultural associations and organizations that traveled to Morocco for the selection of 7,500 seasonal workers have successfully completed the process.

The selection for the hiring at origin has been carried out, among others, by technicians of Freshuelva, UPA, Asaja and COAG. It has lasted for three days and has been carried out in four cities, as reported to Efe by sources within the sector.

Although the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security has authorized the hiring of 19,179 workers at origin this campaign, only 7,500 have needed to be selected, since the rest, about 11,500, are repeaters.

The people selected will move to the province of Huelva in three phases: February 1, March 1 and March 21.

Organizations like the UPA have highlighted "the transparency" of the process. The contract's conditions have been made clear from the start in order to establish a solid working relationship with the people hired from their arrival up until their return to their places of origin.

It is estimated that the agricultural campaign in Huelva will give employment to around 75,000 seasonal workers up until the month of June. These jobs are covered by both local and EU laborers.
