Turkey: Potato harvest kicks off harvest in Bolu

The Bolu Grocery Stores and Retailers Association Chairman, Mustafa Altindal: “Turkey has undergone a major crisis in potatoes and onions where prices had skyrocketed a few months ago to 1.25 USD per kg. Now with the harvest season under way, the prices are coming back to normal.

Currently, the price of potatoes at the grower is 0.20 USD per kg, whereas the price of onions is 0.15 USD per kg. These are the normal price levels and we want to keep the prices at this level. Even though there are many growers in Bolu, we must also take into account the consumers and their benefits as well. Overpriced products do not help anybody so we need to keep the production at a stable level to avoid price volatility. This way both growers and consumers will benefit from these stable market conditions.”
