“We had a very successful snow pea and sugar snap Spring harvest season this year. It started from late April till July 2018. Overall, the weather was good for growing peas, even though it rained a little bit sometimes. All through those ten weeks of harvesting, we shipped to Europe. There were only 2 or 3 containers with feedback of tiny issues after arrival. All our clients were satisfied with our quality except some want more volume during certain weeks," explained Sherry Xu from Luscious Fresh when talking about her Spring harvest season.
Commenting on the upcoming season in Autumn, Sherry explains: “Our 2018 Autumn pea program is expected to start from October and our supply period will last for 6 weeks or so. During the rainy season in July and August the rainfall was a bit more than the peas could take and we lost some. Though, we keep making efforts every year and never give up. It's heart-breaking to see the dying or unhealthy peas, however, we just move on and try to take things back on road and bring things under control again.”
“Quality is always the first concern in the delicate fresh world. Especially for Europe, as they they maintain complicated MRL standards which are very important for us when growing and exporting peas. We must have strict chemical usage plans, even when this means production will be less. We visit Europe every year to have meetings with our partners and to keep up with the changes in the market.”
“The upcoming Autumn harvest peas will be in limited volume, of which snow pea volumes (also known as mange tout) will be more than sugar snaps. Our clients have started working out a program with us. We hope the weather stays nice on our fields and expect to see the harvest going smoothly in a few weeks.”
