First new season sweet potatoes at Masr Fruit

The first containers of the new season of sweet potatoes has been loaded from Masr Fruit's Egyptian packing facilities and European sales will start in two weeks’ time and the supply will continue until the beginning of 2019. Sweet potatoes will be available throughout Europe at Masr Fruit warehouses collection points.

Masr Fruit expects to have a steadily increasing weekly import volumes as the season progresses, "We follow our supermarket program obligations as well as supplying the industrial industry. We grow the sweet potato orange flesh varieties Beauregard and Desert," explains Zine Zouggari, Commercial Director. "Growing conditions have been good and production is going according to our initial plan. Our fields are ideal for sweet potato growing and at Masr Fruit we control the whole process from seed to the supermarket shelves, this give us flexibility in terms of supply and full traceability, which is essential when supplying retailers."

The demand side of the sweet potato market is growing quickly as people want healthy alternatives to potatoes. The Egyptian sweet potato industry has been evolving and for that reason Masr Fruit started this project years ago anticipating the changing market trends.

"In previous seasons we have seen exporters using the wrong varieties and with insufficient levels of handling & control. We created a fully efficient supply chain with a superior variety in corporation with our stakeholders with multiple quality check points all over Europe, ultimately leading to a higher quality level and longer shelf life of the Sweet Potatoes compared to other producers," said Zine.

Masr Fruit's sweet potatoes are being offered in bulk 600 KG bins and cartons of 14, 15 or 6 KG, they are all marketed under the Masrfresh protected brand. Masr Fruit meets all sorting requirements in 7 different sizes to meet all customer’s needs.
