China: Lychee production volumes increased by nearly 50%

Weather conditions were excellent last year and neatly coincided with the autumn growth of lychee trees. Winter temperatures were sufficiently low and the flowers developed well in spring. While the trees flowered, the weather was particularly warm and fine in all production areas.

Because of these weather conditions, lychees have welcomed a bumper harvest this year. It is estimated that the overall production volume in 2018 reached 2.88 million tons. This is an increase of 48.2% in comparison with the 2017 production volume of 1.94 million tons. It is worth noting that Guangxi and Guangdong account for more than 80% of the total surface area devoted to lychee plantation in China. Their production volume equally accounts for more than 80% of China's lychee production volume. These two major lychee production areas are responsible for most of the increased lychee production this year.
