"Argentina has the potential and the possibility to grow in a demanding and growing world market, but there are internal conditions that, added to the external competition factor, create a scenario with many challenges," said Baya, the head of Argentina's Blueberry Committee.
To achieve this, the ABC considers it important to regulate the Tax Reform Law, eliminating provincial taxes on labor, being permanently exempt from the Tax on Gross Income, and a reduction or having a differentiated treatment of energy tariffs that is consistent with the decline in logistics costs.
"All the actors of the sector need to work together to achieve a sustainable, productive, economically profitable activity that is positive in terms of employment levels to strengthen the regional economies of the NOA, NEA, and Buenos Aires. All of this will help increase production and generate more and better sources of work," Baya added.
Regarding the international scenario, Baya said that the ABC aspired to achieve having the same conditions as their competitors abroad, so that the sector can reach its maximum potential, and is able to quadruple the hectares of production.
"It is clear that if the internal conditions are favorable, the sector has great potential. World demand continues to grow and within that framework we see possibilities to take advantage of the new opportunities that appear," Baya stated.
The ABC also stated that a better international positioning would lead to a positive and exponential impact in the regional economies. They also highlighted the importance of promoting an agrarian promotion law in conjunction with trade agreements, such as free trade agreements and economic complementation agreements.
"Currently, other producing countries that have comparative advantages are taking advantage of the business opportunities there are, such as the Chinese market, which could help us achieve much of our growth potential, is an example of this. However, to achieve this we would need to compete on equal terms, starting with achieving a reduction in the import tariff that currently stands at 30%," said the head of the ABC.
The ABC, which constitutes more than 80% of blueberry exports from our country, brings together the sector's regional chambers, which are: the Association of Producers of Mesopotamia (APAMA), the Argentine Chamber of Producers of Blueberries and other Berries (CAPAB), and the Association of Producers of Blueberries of Tucuman (APRATUC).
