Apple variety featured on Daytime Emmys and CBS talk show

Opal®, the apple that growers say is creating a frenzy in the category, took Hollywood by storm this week appearing at the Daytime Emmys and on CBS’ “The Talk” for their post-Emmys show.

Opal apples received the red carpet treatment during the April 29 Daytime Emmy Awards and were included in the gift bags for the event. Branded gift boxes and vouchers good for a season-long supply of Opal apples were distributed to celebrities and VIP guests in attendance. The following day, Opals made their appearance on CBS’ “The Talk” during their post Daytime Emmy coverage where lucky guests were also treated with gift boxes and vouchers.

The hosts loved the bright yellow, sweet and crispy Opal apples and shared a few ideas on ways to enjoy them, including as a ready-to-eat afternoon treat or as a salad topper. Opals received high praise for being a healthy snack that is both Non-GMO and naturally non-browning.

“What a great compliment for Opal apples to be chosen to be part of the Daytime Emmys experience allowing us to share Opals with celebrities, audience members and three million viewers of CBS’ ‘The Talk,’” said Chuck Zeutenhorst, general manager of FirstFruits Marketing. “Opal apples’ reputation as one of the best-tasting apples on the market and a fan favorite thanks in part to its naturally non-browning feature keeps fans coming back for more. And now, thanks to all of this great media exposure on one of the top national talk shows, we couldn’t be prouder.”

Opals are supported through a marketing strategy including in-store support, a full calendar of consumer events and public relations, social media and digital content, partnerships with consumer influencers and a highly-targeted digital advertising campaign.

FirstFruits represents Broetje Orchards, as well as Congdon Orchards. As the exclusive marketer of the Opal®, FirstFruits offers the variety in both organic and conventional options and expects supplies to last through June 2018.
