“In recent years Russia has been demanding more products from all over the world, some companies saw the opportunity to export and make investments. The demand for produce and tourists arriving to the country encourage Russian air lines to start with routes to the Dominican Republic and realized the growth and that good returns on investment can be made”, explains Cesar Perez who is a producer and exporter from the Dominican Republic. He explains that the Russian market is looking for alternative supplying countries. “The Russian and European market have been constantly growing over the years. We believe they are looking for opportunities to supply the national markets by importing from other countries. For example Latin America, Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia and also the Dominican Republic. During each exhibition where we are present we see a growing number of Russian visitors that are interested in doing business.”
“For now, most in demand is our avocado. We produce the green skin avocado and there is a good market for this variety in Russia. However, we also export products like mango, zapote, papaya, hot peppers, guava, sour sop, pineapple, banana and frozen pulps of these fruits. Non fresh produce products like honey, aloe vera, cigars and cacao are also exported to Russia”, continues Cesar.
Working with contracts that include advanced payments, helps the Dominican and Russian businesses to work well together. “We invite them to see our country and facilities. The increasing number of tourists from Russia coming to our country, makes it possible for us to export with competitive logistics rates. By having direct flights to Moscow SVO and VKO airports, on a daily basis and also the availability to export by sea in 14 days to the St. Petersburg port, makes it possible for Russian people to enjoy our fresh fruits and our beautiful country.”
