Cees Bruyn, Staay-Hispa:

"Moroccan Nicola potatoes give a spring feeling like asparagus"

The Moroccan Nicola potatoes traditionally mark the annual start to the potato importing season. Due to the varied weather the Moroccan Nicola potatoes were slightly later than in other years, but the supply has now gotten going. "The sun is regularly shining and this is always good for the demand for premier potatoes. Together with asparagus they guarantee a real spring feeling!" says Cees Bruyn of Staay-Hispa.

"The specialists, market traders and packagers in particular are always in the market for these Moroccan premiers," says the importer. "True to tradition the prices started high and will decrease as the volumes grow. We have seen in recent years that the internal market in Morocco is improving, so not all potatoes are necessarily exported."

Cees expects to be able to offer the import potatoes until the end of the month at least. Staay-Hispa offers the Moroccan Nicola potatoes in a jute packaging of 15 kilos with a cardboard inner back to prevent colouration.
