"Cold weather creates higher retail margin for greenhouse cherries"

"Open field cherries are vulnerable to the influence of frost and rainfall in the period between blossoming and maturation. Weather conditions can create less than optimal fruit quality and affect the ripening period. So while the conditions for greenhouse cherries have overall been more stable, cold weather conditions on April 6th and 7th impacted open field cherries in Yantai.

"The market for Yantai large cherries is polarized, as are the markets of most agricultural products. The overall surface area devoted to cherry orchards increases year after year, but the retail conditions are very different for cherries of various qualities. The high-quality cherries experience little fluctuation, but lower quality cherries are often unmarketable. This year, the market price of Yantai greenhouse cherries is slightly only lower than last year."
