New shipment of oranges arrived at Huizhan Market in Shanghai

China: Is the market for Spanish imported oranges changing?

A new shipment of Spanish oranges have arrived at the Huizhan Market in Shanghai.

"The market is slowly warming up as new shipments of Spanish oranges continue to arrive." This is according to Ma Wenwei of the Shanghai Shunde Feng Fruit Company.

Spain enjoyed an abundant harvest early in November, but only the late-season orange varieties are exported to China. These varieties have thicker skin and are better able to endure transport.

The prices at Spanish orange orchards are high this year and competition is fierce. Sales and prices gradually increase in the import market. The announcement of a tariff increase for US oranges, from 11% to 26%, has not yet influenced the price of Spanish oranges. Furthermore, the supply volume of Egyptian oranges is steadily growing.

The orange market will probably undergo changes in the next few weeks. After rain in Spain, the export volume was greatly reduced. The overall export volume is expected to decrease in April. In addition, the supply of domestic oranges is also gradually approaching the last stage of the season.
