China: Garlic exports set to keep increasing for the new season

"The fresh garlic harvest in South China will start from the end of April, and the garlic season in North China will also kick off right after that. Considering the country's total garlic production this year has increased compared to the previous years, garlic prices will be very likely to decline. The export volume will increase compared to the previous season. As a result, the export value will see a downward trend," said Kevin, manager of the Shandong YSC Import & Export Co., Ltd., in a interview with FreshPlaza.com.

"Currently, the selling price of garlic is significantly lower than the purchasing price of last year, and most garlic dealers are operating at a loss. This is mainly due to the fact that dealers overestimated the garlic market this year and their purchasing prices were generally high. It is expected that the purchasing price this year will tend to be more reasonable."

"It has been a sluggish garlic market for quite a long time. It's still difficult to say exactly when the market will recover. It depends on the total planting area nationwide. The garlic price will rebound only if the plantation areas are effectively controlled."
