Peru celebrates its First Avocado Festival

The avocado is becoming one of the most widespread crops in Peru, for that reason, Huamanpali will celebrate the 1st Avocado Festival on April 12 and 13. This celebration will bring together producers and marketers from all over the country with the goal of promoting the multiple benefits and unparalleled quality of Peruvian avocados.

Avocado production is increasing in Peru, especially in this privileged area, which previously cultivated cotton. Due to the cotton's low profitability, producers in the area decided to start planting avocados and to form the Humanpali Immaculate Conception Association of Agricultural Producers- Alto Laran.

In recent years, the province of Chincha, which has good water resources, adequate land, and many packing plants and processing factories dedicated to the export of avocado, has increased the area devoted to this product to 3,080 hectares.

This year, Peru expects to have a positive avocado campaign. Production is expected to be higher than in the previous season, when the fields and the crops were affected by the El NiƱo phenomenon. Currently, the crops yield 18 to 25 tons per hectare, and the price of Hass avocados started at $ 1.80 per kilo.

The First Avocado Festival
The Avocado Festival is being organized by the Regional Government of Ica, the Chincha Agrarian Agency, the Municipality of Alto Laran, and the Association of Avocado Producers. It will include various activities such as exhibitions, sale of products, and the elaboration of dishes and recipes based on avocado, among other things. In addition, producers will showcase added value products made from this fruit, such as avocado honey, oils, and shampoos.

The people interested in participating in the Festival can register for it on April 12 at the entrance of the facilities, from 9:00 am.
