Enhancing color of Honey mango and ensure high quality upon arrival

US mango shipper launches black label box

“At the moment, we are shipping Honey mangoes as well as Hadens and Tommy Atkins from Mexico,” says Cindy Swanberg Schwing with London Fruit. “Our Mexican mango season started off with the Honey variety at the end of January and we will continue with Kent and Keitt later in the season.” Supplies are increasing every week and will be full force into April.

London Fruit sources its mangos from the growing regions of Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit and Sinaloa. “Although growing conditions vary by region, overall the conditions have been good this season.”

Black box label
To enhance the visibility of the Ataulfo (Honey) mango through its maturing process, London Fruit designed new packaging in the form of a black box. “We feel that in each state of the maturing process the color is nicely enhanced in a black presentation,” says Kalani Jaime with London Fruit. In addition, the black box also offers retail customers a more easily displayed package. “Eventually, all our mangoes will be shipped in the black label box.”

Protected product upon delivery
In addition to the color, the black box is also unique in terms of construction. The open top carton, along with the open ventilation pattern, allows for maximum air flow during shipment. “This is key to ensuring a more consistent, quality product upon arrival at the customer,” Jaime said. “Our reinforced corner package also enhances the strength of the package, ensuring a properly protected product upon delivery.”

Viva Fresh Expo
London Fruit is looking forward to the Viva Fresh show later this week. “It is an important show for us because of retail, wholesale as well as foodservice attendance,” said Schwing. “We really like the proximity to our home offices and the ability to showcase our region and state to attending buyers and interested customers.” Visit London Fruit at booth #67.
