All Lidl packaging to be 100% recyclable by 2025

According to official data, 26 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated each year in the EU, but only 30% is recycled, while the remaining 70% is incinerated or landfilled. 95% of the value of plastic containers, which amounts to between 70,000 and 105,000 million Euro, is lost every year. Lidl is taking another step in its commitment to sustainability and has set new objectives to minimise its environmental impact.

Faced with the challenge of recycling, the chain is committed to ensuring that all plastic containers for products under its own brand will be 100% recyclable before 2025. In the case of Spain, this decision will affect practically the entire range, since currently 90% of the products marketed in the store are sold under its own brand.

Thus, the company will implement the regulatory plans of the European Union at least 5 years in advance, as the EU's goal is for all plastic containers to be recyclable or reusable by 2030. In this same line, the company has set another objective: to reduce the use of plastic by at least 20% by 2025.
