Italy: Pleasing results for Stet Holland potatoes

Famous for their gold potatoes cultivated in the red soil near the GuĂ  river, the Colognes area in the Veneto region is welcoming the first harvesting of 2017.

Despite the problematic weather conditions caused by the cold front that affected the area in April, Stet Holland potatoes passed all stress tests with flying colours and proved to be extremely resistant.

Tubers are distributed thanks to the cooperation between Balladore Carlo e figlio Snc, located in Guazzora (Alessandria), and intermediation agency Veronese Luciano & C. Sas, located in Asigliano Veneto (Vicenza).

Avanti variety

The Avanti variety will be harvested over the next few days, confirming it as the earliest cultivar of the segment. It will then be the turn of the Vitalia variety, with yellow skin and flesh and excellent for storage in cold units.

Vitalia variety

The Sultana variety will be harvested from mid-July onward. The variety is characterised by slow dormancy and exceptional productivity.

The range is completed with Dirosso, an early variety characterised by red skin and yellow flesh and with excellent organoleptic and rusticity characteristics. There is also white-fleshed variety Amarin.

Sales managers report that they are "pleased with the productivity of the Stet Holland varieties. We are now waiting to see how the 2017 campaign will evolve as it might be affected by a variety of factors - yields in the north, the end of harvesting and price trends for early productions in the south, 2016 stocks in leading European countries and their yields over the next few months."
