California Avocado Month June 1-30

California Avocado Commission partners with Grand Central Market, Los Angeles

June is California Avocado Month and the California Avocado Commission is partnering with Grand Central Market in Los Angeles to offer visitors special, limited-time California Avocado dishes throughout the food hall from June 1-30.

On May 23, CAC and Grand Central Market held a kick-off event that included introductions and information about California Avocado Month from Jan DeLyser, Vice President of Marketing for CAC. In addition, California avocado grower and CAC chairman Rick Shade told the guests the story of how is grandfather purchased his first avocado at Grand Central Market 100 years ago (1917). At the time, he was a Los Angeles-area farmer. Shade’s son, C.J. Shade, also was in attendance, making it four generations of California avocado farmers coming to the same market.

Guests were treated to a tour of the Grand Central Market, where they sampled California avocado dishes from participating vendors. During the entire month of June these vendors will feature the special California avocado menu items. The vendors include Horse Thief BBQ, Belcampo Meat Co., DTLA Cheese and Kitchen, Golden Road Brewing, La Tostaderia, Las Morelianas, Olio Wood Fired Pizzeria, Prawn, Ramen Hood and Valerie Confections.

Many attendees of the kick-off event immediately began outreach on their social media channels, sharing the creative California avocado creations.
