Peru: Chepen aims to have 150 hectares of asparagus

According to the Regional Agriculture Department of La Libertad (GRALL), the province of Chepen (La Libertad) currently has 70 hectares of asparagus and wants to install 80 more hectares of this vegetable.

The Union of Organized Agricultural Producers of the Jequetepeque Valley (Ceprovaje) is interested in participating in the Procompite program to plant asparagus and maize. The province has 150 hectares of this last crop.

As a result, the GRALL will conduct a training in business plans, through its Agrarian Agency in Chepen. This activity will be attended by the 157 members of Ceprovaje, and will be developed in the offices of the union.

Enrique Morales Ruíz, director of the Agricultural Agency of Chepen, said they would train the farmers on the Procompite program, and inform them about the requirements and the way to belong to said program and how to gain support from the asparagus chain.
