Half of the fruits and vegetables in Nigeria get damaged daily

Nigerian officials are seeking ways to increase productivity and better preserve the quality of agricultural goods. According to the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, 50 per cent of fruits and vegetables harvested in Nigeria get damaged on a daily basis.

The council said that in addition to post harvest losses, the country also suffered loss of revenue from poor packaging of agricultural produce for export.

The Executive Director, NEPC, Olusegun Awolowo said there was no way producers of vegetables and perishable crops could have a competitive advantage in the global market without quality packaging system.
