"China: "Lamplight fruit" sales hot-wired"

"In the past two years, our dragon fruit trees have entered their most productive phase and output this year is double that of 2016. Supply is up nationwide but prices have fallen by 10-15%, year on year," said Feiyan Su, from the Qionghai Yuyue fruit and vegetable production and marketing cooperative.

"Light fruit, is a kind of dragon fruit that grows under artificial illumination, which increases the photosynthesising period and promotes blossoming. This is the first year that our 'lamplight fruits' have hit the market. The production of last winter reached hundreds of thousands of pounds, and the sales are very gratifying. The price of lamplight fruit is twice as high as the general varieties, which is mainly because the market supply is less and the listing period starts late. The general dragon fruit starts from the end of May to December each year, while the listing period of lamplight fruit is from December to next May. At present, lamplight fruit is mainly sold to the high-end market."

"At the present stage, we have a wide range of sales channels, including on-line sellers, fruit stores, high-end supermarkets and community distribution. In the future, we will focus on the development of the stores and community distribution services in order to make contact with consumers more directly and receive their feedback."
