Argentina: Blueberry sector gets ready for the 2017 harvest

The Association of Blueberry Producers is looking to strengthen the field work by perfecting the task of the technical specialists who work with the producers. One of their objectives is to unlock trade issues related to technical aspects, such as improving the quality of the fruit.

Blueberry producers from Mesopotamia want to continue consolidating the position that the Argentinian blueberries have in the international market. This year, their goal is to make progress in improving the quality of the fruit produced in the region. They are basically seeking to regain their advantage over competitors in the continent who last year exceeded their expected export levels.

To do this, the Association started the season in March by planning some trainings and a series of actions related to technical aspects so as to achieve a positive rebound at the commercialization stage, when the 2017 harvest begins.

The new president of the entity, Alejandro Pannunzio, and the vice president of the Association, Omar Chiarello, led a working meeting with the engineers and technicians that advise each of the associated producers. Among the topics discussed, progress was made on the negotiations for the extension of the authorization of plant protection products, the permanent monitoring program of the fruit fly, and links with SENASA, among other issues.

In addition, they began to define a continuous training program for technicians of the associated companies to ensure they are permanently prepared.

This year, there will be another Apama Technical Conference
Finally, they agreed on a date for the eighth edition of the annual Technical Conferences. On this occasion, the conferences will be on August 10 and 11, in a location yet to be decided. Last year, the conference was interrupted due to the completion of the IBO Congress in the city of Concordia and Salto.
