Domingo Penate, Anaco Greeve:

“Spanish iceberg lettuce supply leveled again”

Flooded fields of iceberg lettuce were the order of the day two months ago. Supply was reduced to about 20 per cent of the regular supply but by now, the new plants are on the market. “We have plenty of supply,” says Domingo Penate from Anaco Greeve.

“We had some rain again last week, so that supply is slightly lower now, but I expect regular volumes by the end of the week,” Domingo says. According to the importer, there is hardly any competition from Spanish production right now. “Transport is simply too expensive from other production countries.”

“Quality has been good in recent months, and prices are at a good level. It is expected that more volume will arrive on the market in the coming weeks, so prices will not rise too much. Especially small ones are on the market, the number of ‘tens’ is limited. Supply mostly consists of ‘twelves.’”
