China: Volpusi's cherry tomatoes meet high-end demand

"The production of tomatoes in China is mainly situated in the provinces Shandong, Henan, Hebei and a few others. They totally occupy an area of approximately 1 million hectares, ranging from regular to high end production. Furthermore, the industry's size grows steadily year by year. The increase in surface area for the operations mainly benefits from the he national Ministry of Agriculture's supportive policies, such as providing economic and technological assistance to the greenhouses in northwestern regions. The market price is unstable, due to lack of homogeneity of tomatoes on the current market and unequal quality," says mister Wu, chairman at Volpusi Corporations.

"Recently, in the wake of rising living standards of consumers, expectations toward food safety have gradually been increasing. Aiming to meet this market demand, we founded our Shandong Summer and Autumn Fruits and Vegetables Llc in September last year. This new firm helps us to produce new smaller tomatoes for the middle and high end markets. After several successful experiments within our cultivation area, we have pushed the tomatoes to both the online and offline market."

"At this moment, we are working on designs for new operational bases in Shandong province, Ningxia province and Hunan province. We believe there is great potential for our cherry tomatoes in the market, mainly because, first of all, we have grown the new variety ourselves and the taste is excellent. Secondly, our company strictly controls every step of the process from R&D, to production, to distribution, until consumption. We guarantee that customers can eat tomatoes that are absolutely safe and superior in quality."

"Similar to the Summer and Autumn Fruits and Vegetables Corporation, Volpusi Agriculture also belongs to the Volpusi group. We strive to develop and market tomato seeds and new tomato varieties. The seeds are sold in all seed retailers, agricultural cooperatives and rural villages across China. Our data shows that in 2016, Volpusi group circulated a total of approximately 1 billion kilogram of tomato seeds into the market. In terms of R&D for breeding techniques, Volupsi group does not only have its own specialized research team, but also cooperates with over 10 research centers in both China and abroad. Besides this, we have introduced data chips that monitor the complete process from the seed sprouting to the consumer eating the tomato. There are still some challenges: China is a vast territory with many resources and different weather conditions have different influences on our products. Therefore we are still looking for ways to safeguard stability in the quality of our goods."
