The Chinese raspberry industry is getting ready

"The Chinese raspberry industry is still in its infancy. There are only a few manufacturing locations, of which most are concentrated in the provinces Yunnan, Hebei and the North-East. The harvesting period varies yearly between April-June, June-August and July-October. In terms of the scope of plantations, a lot of growers in Yunnan and the Northeast are mainly small investors. On the international level, the supply of raspberries exceeds the demand in the market. In comparison to last year, this year's total output is predicted to be 50%-60% larger and the market price will drop 10%-20%,", says Ms. Liu from Berry Nine Agricultural Science and Technology Company Ltd.

"The growth of raspberries has suffered from unfavorable weather conditions. Both drought and moist heat can severely impact the size and taste of the fruit. Two years ago, unfavorable weather conditions led to a reduced output of raspberries, which caused an insufficient supply in the market and immediately led to a substantially large expansion. Eventually it ended in an increase in output."

"Our company was founded in in 2014 and is situated in Cangzhou city (Hebei Province). We possess a packing facility, quick-freeze warehouses and a plantation of 333 hectares (5000 mu). Of these, 17 hectares are greenhouses. All produced fresh raspberries, fruit juice and frozen fruits which are sold under the free 'Fu Ti Rui' brand. We sell our goods in high-end supermarkets in the Chinese first-tier cities and export to Europe, Russia, France, Germany, Dubai and other foreign places. Our yearly output currently stands at approximately 2000 tons. At the present stage, we are collaborating with a company from Shanghai that processes fruit juice, because our own facility is currently being renovated."

"Raspberries have their origins in North America. Because of their unique taste, sweetness and nutritional value, it has become one of the most popular products on the European market. In contrast, Chinese consumers are not very well acquainted with raspberries yet. The market price is also higher. Our target customer segment mainly consists of middle to high-end consumers, but people are still not very aware of this fruit and need to be guided to the appropriate market."

"We have the biggest plantation area in China, we also possess the GAP certificate that testifies we don't use any pesticides and do not openly damage the soil of our plantations. In order to promote our high-end raspberries on the market, we are continously using media and exhibitions. For example, our company had a booth at the wine exhibition in Chengdu this month. Nowadays, we are looking for high-end chain supermarkets in the domestic market, and middle to high-end fruit retailers and sales agents, so we can work together with them and give more consumers the possibilty of tasting our fruit juice."
