The third Latin American Passiflora Congress will be held from 15 to 17 March and will be the first event of international reach for this sector. "The plan is to carry out a technical and scientific update of the most recent research and experiences on both a productive and commercial level. We have issued a call to all entities working in this sector and we'll have a business conference and testimonials, as well as a commercial section, where companies will have a chance to offer their services in this sector," confirmed the representative.
"The growth that passifloras, or passion fruits, have achieved in terms of exports, as well as their growing demand and considerable potential, has been our motivation to organise this congress. Colombia is one of the main passiflora producers and has a leading position in the market as far as biodiversity is concerned. At the corporation, we seek to contribute to the improvement of the sector and encourage more research," stressed Parra.
"Emphasis will be placed on the thematic area devoted to Genetic Resources, which is led by Brazil, Australia, Kenya and New Zealand. It is worth stressing that other Latin American countries, despite being producers and exporters of these fruits, have not implemented plant breeding technologies, which has not allowed them to face the consequences of climate change and meet the requirements of the exporting countries. This topic will consequently be very helpful for the attendees," she concluded.
