Mexico: Jalisco to export agricultural products to Kazakhstan

Agricultural producers, agricultural businesses in the state, and foreign trade service providers participated in a business meeting with representatives of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in order to conquer that country's market.

The meeting, which seeks to create new foreign trade alternatives and diversify markets for Jalisco's agricultural products, was chaired by the director of Priority Regions of the Ministry of Rural Development (Seder), Americo Alatorre Ozuna, and the Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Mexico, Andrian Yelemessov.

The participants at the meeting committed to conduct a trade mission with producers and agricultural businessmen from Jalisco at an early date.

In turn, the diplomat from Kazakhstan said he would send a detailed list of his country's plant and animal health requirements to the Seder to proceed to the formalization of a health and customs protocol so that Jalisco can send food products to his country.

Kazakhstan is interested in the foods from Jalisco that are already positioned abroad, such as berries, avocados, and tropical fruits, such as mango and plantain.

Ambassador Yelemessov said his country's tradition of consuming horse meat posed an opportunity for Mexico and Jalisco in particular, as they could comply with the requirements to export this product to Kazakhstan.

Jalisco currently exports its products to 67 countries. Four years ago, the state only exported to 35 countries.

Kazakhstan is a Eurasian country with a population of 18 million people and a dynamic economy since it opted for a free market scheme, which still has significant state intervention.
