"Chile: "The blueberry market is constantly developing"

"Every year, new varieties arise and new countries like Peru, South Africa or Morocco join the competition," states Juan Pablo Hube, representative of the Chilean company, Huberry Farm & Export. The greater product supply causes prices to fall, so it is not so much a matter of who has the greatest volume, but who is most specialised and has the better quality.

Huberry Farm & Export is not currently selling its production to the domestic market, but as the blueberries are harvested, they are packed and stored in cold chambers, ready to be exported to countries like China, South Korea, Canada and several cities in Europe. They are therefore in control of the entire chain. In this way, they are able to ensure greater efficiency, since they have full access to all stages of the business and this helps them improve day by day.

At present, "it is difficult to predict what will happen in the next few years in this sector. The consumer is changing, the product is developing, etc," explains Hube. "Our goal is for this business to become a solid family business that will also allow us to have a healthier life, with the family enjoying and living from it," affirms Hube. They seek self-sustainability to keep growing, renewing varieties or looking for better calibres.
