Charles Tumbo, of the Export Promotion Council, and Carol Muumbi of the Agriculture and Food Authority, represented the delegation and were excited to be at Fruit Logistica.
“The companies that came along are attending B2B meetings and are actively approaching new buyers. Last year we had 15 companies, but now we have 27. It is our eleventh consecutive year at Fruit Logistica,” says Tumbo.
The most important product for Kenya right now is avocados, though the country also exports beans and peas. While Tumbo admits that there haven’t been significant changes in comparison to last year, the avocado sector does seem to be growing.
According to Carol Muumbi, Kenya is looking for more market opportunities in Asia. “We are very interested in trade with Asian countries, but there are a lot of barriers that stand in the way of market access,” says Muumbi. However, companies are already trading with some regions in Asia, such as Malaysia or Hong Kong.
“Each market has its own dynamics,” says Muumbi. “We’re adapting our products and strategy to all the cultural differences for each region.”
In order to withstand the competition from other producing countries, Tumbo thinks attending Fruit Logistica is crucial. “We’ve come here to expand our markets. We want to improve our production and increase acreage. For this purpose, Fruit Logistica is excellent,” says Tumbo in conclusion.
