McDonalds Japan announces new candied sweet potato fries

McDonalds Japan is adding another bizarre item to their menu. They have announced a new type of candied sweet potato fries they will be offering. The fries are not actually made from sweet potatoes but come with a sweet sauce with sesame seeds to give them a sweet flavor.

The name of the dish translates roughly to “Japanese Style French Fries Candied Sweet Potato Flavor.” Apparently, these things are called “University Fries” in Japan because they were popular with college students in the 1900’s.
