Kaufland offers customers additional service through pick-up stations

At the beginning of October, Kaufland started a delivery service in Berlin. The company has now expanded this idea with a pick-up station. This has been in operation since the 3rd February. It is located in Niederschöneweide at 20 D Schnellerstraße, next to the beverages shop of the local Kaufland branch.

This location was chosen especially with commuters in mind, who can stop on their way home from work to collect their shopping. This will make shopping so much more convenient. The station is stocked up multiple times a day. Shoppers are given time slots Monday to Saturday between 7am and midnight to come and pick up their ordered goods. As a result, customers with all kinds of different daily routines have a flexible way of purchasing food and everyday necessities. Since this pick-up station is a pilot project, the pick-up times are adapted and optimised according to the needs of the users.

Modern, energy-efficient and customer-friendly
The station has 60 compartments in three temperature zones for refrigerated, cooled and room temperature goods. With a length of nine metres, a height of 2.4 metres and a depth of one meter, it is the largest of its kind in Germany. It also has the most modern and energy-efficient cooling technology. The functioning of the station as well as the temperature of the storage areas are both monitored remotely. A large touch-screen and a user friendly menu guide in German, English and French ensure a quick and easy shopping experience. The customers receive a numeric code when ordering online, with which the compartments can be opened. Delivery to the pick-up station is free and the minimum order value is 20 euros per purchase. When ordering alcoholic beverages or cigarettes, an age verification is carried out before collection with either an ID card or a driving license.

More pick-up stations planned
It only took four months to make the idea of the pick-up station a reality. This shows that agile processes can quickly developer consumer-friendly solutions and more pick-up stations have been planned in Berlin and in Hamburg. Here, the offer will also be that the same prices will apply as in the store.

The Kaufland Group operates more than 650 food retailers across Germany. It is based in Neckarsulm, Baden-Württemberg. Kaufland has been awarded "Trader of the Year" for the fifth time in a row. In the supermarket category, the company ranked first and scored especially highly in the price-performance ratio as well as in special offers.
