"In China, the main production areas for yam are the Henan, Hebei and Shandong Provinces and planting seasons vary from place to place. In Baoding city, Hebei province, the planting season is from April to the end of October. The focus on the listing period is from January to early May every year," said Chuange Yang from the Yang yam wholesale firm.
"Considering the production and sales of the output, at present, the domestic yams are basically grown outdoors. In the growth process, the yield is affected mainly by rainfall, too much rain will make yam tuber growth deformation, resulting in reduced production and sales problems. We, as a wholesaler, purchase Mao yam from the yam base in Hebei province and sell to the wholesale market in Hangzhou city. Compared with previous years, the yam production this year was down 20%-30%, wholesale prices increased by 30%.
"As a food and medicine, yam has a high nutritional value and is good for the skin and kidneys and other functions. In recent years, they have been very popular with consumers. Every year, the yam planting has been growing and the domestic market has become saturated. Based on this situation, we are actively looking for overseas wholesalers to cooperate in the hope that our high-quality yams could be sold to Southeast Asia or Europe."
