Filipe Ravazzini da Silva: Valentine’s Day strawberries exclusively under Jaguar label
“Spanish strawberries have caught up in flavour and quality”
Jaguar has been supplying Valentine’s Day strawberries for several years already, often in special packaging. “So many people, so many desires,” Filipe Ravazzini da Silva from Jaguar Fresh Company laughs. “We offer Valentine’s Day strawberries in 10x500, 12x450 heart-shaped, 12x450 chocolate-covered and 8x500 gift pack. We already saw an increased demand for luxury packaging during the holidays, such as Saint Valentine's Day, Christmas and others, a while ago. People could then only choose from the standard 250 and 500 flowpack or punnet / lid and the one-kilogram pitufos. You could also get them in 12x400 grammes (one-layered), but apart from the strawberries being placed nicely in the packaging, the appearance and packaging was not all that special,” Filipe says.
Strict inspection
“A few years ago we started with a Giftpack packaging, under the brand Strawberry Bites. Besides being completely coloured and nicely presented strawberries, the strawberries also went through a strict inspection. Not every strawberry is suited to this. Think of shape, colour, flavour and shelf life. Only when these aspects are correct, can they be packaged under this brand. Only in this manner can our customers be guaranteed of a good product, and that is what we are striving for,” Filipe continues.
Valentine
Jaguar TFC has exclusivity of brand Strawberry Bites for its supplier in the Benelux. “Additionally, this year we designed an exclusive Jaguar label, especially for Saint Valentine’s Day. Besides a label with a premium look, these strawberries are also guaranteed to have a good flavour, colour and shape,” says Filipe. When asked if they promote any other fresh produce products for Saint Valentine’s Day, he answers: “Not yet specifically. But we are working on getting other types of fruit supplied in heart-shaped packaging, besides soft fruit.”
Flavour
For years, Jaguar TFC has had its home base in Spain, and, additionally, they also import strawberries from countries such as Portugal, Egypt and Morocco. For Saint Valentine’s Day, most strawberries are imported from Spain. “Although the packaging and presentation of a product such as strawberries is becoming increasingly important, we personally think the quality of the product is even more important. That is why we are constantly looking for the best strains and varieties. Flavour, flavour, flavour, that is what I believe in,” Filipe explains.
“You could design a beautiful packaging with wonderful labels, but if the product does not taste nice, it is a wasted effort. Spanish strawberries never used to be known for their flavour or quality — the varieties were mostly Camarosa and Festival — but that has changed by now! Especially with the arrival of the improved Fortuna and varieties such as Primoris, we now have fruit that looks good and tastes great. And that is good news, for who does not like strawberries,” Filipe concludes.
