“Outdated brush systems mostly unhygienic”

Magnetic sealing system keeps vermin out

For reasons of food safety, it is extremely important that company systems function optimally on the shop floor. In practice it is quite a job to seal doors and docks in the food industry in such a way as to keep food free from vermin. “The common but hopelessly outdated brush systems often lead to unhygienic scenes,” Wijnand Rijsdam from CWR International knows from experience. According to him, the solution to this problem can be found in a magnetic sealing system.

“Brush systems are often fixed and unhygienic in use. Brushes attract all kinds of food waste. Cleaning them is no sinecure,” Wijnand continues. “The traditional sealing systems do not seal hermetically shut. The result is that rodents have an open field and cooled food is exposed to temperature fluctuations, which also affects the fresh produce world and the organic sector (in)directly.”

The patented Em-Flex systems are magnetic and therefore easy to clean, in part thanks to the missing mounting profiles. A canvas is used for sealing, and can be easily cleaned with a high-pressure spraying pistol. “The system might be more expensive to buy than a brush or rubber system, but at the same time, it is as good as maintenance free. It also makes a difference that assembly time is minimal, and often done by the users themselves. Because it is magnetic, drills no longer have to be used in assembly. Furthermore, the material does not let in cold, which makes it extremely suitable for the refrigerated sector. Recovering the costs on the one-off investment is easily done.”

The system is currently already being used by companies such as Van Oers United, Makro, Bakker Transport and in shops from Shell. According to Wijnand, the organic sector can also profit from this sealing system, because there is no energy loss, and no preventive pesticides have to be used against vermin.
